iPad Pro 2018 (10.5 inches) upgraded the system within two days after iPad OS 17.4 came out, resulting in unlimited restarts for about 3 minutes each time it was booted

After the update, I began to regret it. I decided to be cautious when updating the system for any equipment in the future, and update it after a small version is released. The old equipment should not be updated unless it can be updated.
Later, iPadOS 17.4. 1 came out and tried to update, but every time it was preparing for the update, it automatically restarted. This happened after at least 50 attempts.
I have been trying to solve it, but I have never thought of an idea, and I haven't found any relevant information on the Internet. I guess the hardware may be broken. If you want to be normal, you must take it to regular after-sales treatment.
I want to send it to V2 to try if anyone can give me some ideas.

Anonymous3859 Apr 9, 2024Try flashing the phone in dfu mode, there are also 18 pro models that are 11 inches

Anonymous1756 Apr 9, 2024This is my model. Recently, I don't know whether the upper right corner of the screen is aging or somehow yellow. It's very obvious. I haven't upgraded the new system, and I'm not going to upgrade it.

Anonymous2779 Apr 9, 2024Let's see if there is too little space left first. This is the most common reason for update failure.

Poster Apr 9, 2024@ Anonymous3859 # 1 There is no brush on Apple devices again, and there is no technology in this area. Keep this option for the time being.

Poster Apr 9, 2024@ Anonymous1756 # 2 Don't upgrade old devices if they can be used. Apple is not very friendly to the system compatibility of devices over 5 years old.

Poster Apr 9, 2024@ Anonymous2779 # 3 As far as my device is concerned, it is obviously not a space problem, because there are still more than 100 G of space.

Anonymous2779 Apr 9, 2024@ Poster If you don't want to use DFU mode, you can backup first, then reset the machine to factory, upgrade the system, and finally use backup restore.

Anonymous7899 Apr 9, 2024I would like to share my experience of update failure. Although it has nothing to do with the symptoms of infinite restart after booting, I hope to help friends with similar situations: the update failure may really be due to insufficient space. Mine is Pro 2018, with 50G of free space, which is obviously enough for minor updates. However, the previous few system updates all went wrong (I was preparing for the update but not finished). Once I even restarted and used the progress bar. As a result, I went in and saw it. It's still the old version. Later, I really didn't do anything. I deleted a few large video files and freed up another 20G. This time, I succeeded once. Then copy the video file back, and the next update will have the same error. I guess one possible reason is that the iCloud library or cloud disk has downloaded a large number of files before, and then optimized the storage to free up space. However, due to some problems, it was not successfully carried out, and only the value of the total storage space was changed; In other words, you don't release all the space immediately at all, but wait for you to run out of space before releasing it, and this process doesn't match the system update well. I restored my iPad from iCloud cloud backup last time, and the update disappeared from this problem. I don't know if it has been completely solved.

Poster Apr 9, 2024@ Anonymous7899 # 9 Your sharing is also inspiring to me. I seem to have some big videos on my iPad. I plan to try the ideas you mentioned. Thank you.

Poster Apr 9, 2024@ Anonymous2779 # 3 # 7 @ Anonymous7899 # 9 Thanks to the ideas provided by the two V friends, I transferred and deleted some large video files, but it didn't restart automatically. It always displayed more than 100 G of space before, but I never thought that it was caused by insufficient storage space. I tried to uninstall many apps to solve it before posting this post, but it didn't work. It turns out that deleting large video files is the correct idea. But this is definitely a bug of the iPad, because my iPad Pro has always had enough storage space, and I didn't store large files for a long time before the update. It may be that a lot of junk files were generated when updating to iPadOS17.4, which caused problems with the iPad. It should be regarded as a big bug of Apple. Normally, a large number of junk files should be displayed in the system to let users know that the storage space is not enough, which leads to the system restarting constantly. I'm so happy that this problem that has been bothering me for about a month has finally been solved ☺ ️, thank you again V friends and thank you V2EX for this wonderful community 🙆. So far, the problems described in this post have been solved. I hope there will be no other similar strange problems, 🙏.

Anonymous7899 Apr 10, 2024I didn't expect it to really solve your problem 🤣 The next step is to start backing up and resetting (iCloud backup is recommended) to prevent the problem from repeating itself ~

Poster Apr 10, 2024@ Anonymous7899 # 13 It's true that there are several automatic restarts after shutdown. For safer and better experience, I plan to try backup reset when I have time. But iCloud didn't buy space, and there was no budget to buy space for the time being, so it had to be backed up manually. Thank you for your selfless sharing and let me sort things out and wish you all the best. In addition, I would like to ask, will resetting the system restore to the factory version when I first bought it?

Anonymous7833 Apr 10, 2024@ Anonymous3859 Yes, 17 is 10.5

Anonymous7899 Apr 10, 2024@ Poster You're welcome ~ Maybe you can use the temporary iCloud backup space prepared for changing the machine (I haven't tried this function on the same device myself, and I don't know if it can be applied to resetting the machine, so I still have to back it up locally before trying this function) https://support.apple.com/zh-cn/104980 The reset does not return to the factory, it just leaves the current system partition
