Now it is basically confirmed that Mini7 will be released on October 23rd. I have a telecom data card that I have been using heavily. I want to put it in as a hotspot after entering Mini7. I wonder if Mini7 will also become an eSIM

Anonymous282 Sep 18, 2024There is a high probability that it will. Even iPad has mandatory eSIM in mainland China. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology only blocked the eSIM of the iPhone and did not block the iPad.

Anonymous285 Oct 18, 2024@ Anonymous282 Why doesn't iPad limit esim, and what is the essential difference from mobile phones? Because too small is easy to locate?

Anonymous282 Oct 19, 2024@ Anonymous285 The mainland version of iPad can only activate the eSIM of China Unicom in mainland China, and the overseas eSIM can only be activated when brought overseas. This avoids the network supervision loopholes caused by mainland users' extremely low cost acquisition of overseas eSIM. It's a similar story for Apple Watch's eSIM. What regulation cares about is actually not e no e. What cares is that users can't just change the SIM they don't want you to have. I think this may be a balanced solution under the multi-party game between regulators, operators and manufacturers. To be more optimistic, maybe in two years, we can see domestic iPhones begin to promote solutions by locking eSIM areas. Foreign machines can also use domestic numbers when they arrive in China.
