Is there a more cost-effective external hard disk box with Thunderbolt 2 interface?

The old iMac Late 2015 I'm using, and the hybrid hard drive is already stuck.
But I didn't want to disassemble the screen and replace it with an SSD (mainly for fear of damaging the screen). I wanted to install an external SSD to make the old machine glow up, but it didn't meet the speed of USB3.0. After looking around, I found that the hard disk boxes of Thunderbolt 2 ports are all super expensive, and the price of 1T SSD + box exceeds 1,000 yuan.
I wonder if there are any more affordable boxes or other modification solutions at the moment?

Anonymous3281 Sep 20, 2024Curve to save the country: Taobao buys a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 converter in stock (this converter is two-way https://www.apple.com.cn/shop/product/MYH93FE/A), and then buy Thunderbolt 3 hard disk box. Save the country in a straight line: Save money on buying converters and hard disk boxes, and let the master at Apple Store or Computer City disassemble the machine and install the SSD. It is said that the hard disk equipment of Thunderbolt 2 is mainly based on hard disk arrays. It was a product to serve the trash can (Mac Pro 2013) back then, and it is normal to be more expensive.

Poster Sep 21, 2024@ Anonymous3281 Thanks to 🙏, I have also thought about the curve scheme, but after tossing, the cost is not low. I will study the scheme again.

Anonymous3282 Dec 13, 2024Dismantle it. I just replaced it last week. Removing the screen is very simple, be careful, it is so easy to break. By the way, I bought a VESA wall-mounted.

Anonymous8685 Jun 6, 2025Disassemble the screen and replace it with nvme's hard drive. Follow ifixit's tutorial and operate boldly. I have dismantled 5 units, and the 27 inch is easier to dismantle than the 21.5 inch.
