[Random thoughts] mini M4, install a Windows virtual machine, how is the software compatibility and experience?

by Poster Nov 2, 2024 72
Recently, the M4 Mac mini is so popular that I am considering buying a Mac mini, but I am not engaged in development, and I am not a video music creator. The only thing I have with Apple is an iPhone. After buying it, I can experience the Apple system. So I think that the performance of m4 is so good, and I can experience the performance of m4 and the Mac system by buying it, but I don't want to give up the software diversity of Win, so I think it should be a minor problem to arrange a Win virtual machine, but I don't know how is the compatibility and system experience of the ARM version of Win software on the virtual machine? At present, the computer is a win notebook that has been used for several years. It's time to die after playing games, so no matter what you change, it's an experience upgrade.

If you like playing games, just change your game book. If Mac mini doesn't do professional things, it is suitable for surfing the Internet and writing code. Compared with the x86 platform, mute is the biggest advantage If you use win and linux, just have a nas to install the virtual machine, and only put the silent computer in front of the monitor

Both a virtual machine and Windows involve a lot of arm translation, and the experience will not be very good. In this environment, M4 will not be easier to use than if you buy an AMD mini machine Forget about playing games. On the whole, Mac runs games through Wine is slightly worse than SteamOS's Proton, and there are very few native games... I'm not saying that Mac can't play games. If you use Mac frequently and occasionally portingit to play games, it's good to bring one less computer, but if you specifically consider the use of games, it's completely unhappy for yourself

@ Poster # 6 If you just play games and watch videos, maybe win's mini console is more suitable.

Compatibility is too poor, x64 driver can't be installed, which means that some printers are compatible with it very troublesome

You can rent one to experience it, and then buy it if it feels suitable. Don't be taken advantage of

@ Anonymous2159 # 4 doesn't have much game use. After all, Niu Ma doesn't have the time and energy to play games. If you think about it, there is really little demand for mac

@ Anonymous2848 # 8 The printer is not bad. I use it at home, and my printing requirements are almost zero. I mainly like to download some cracked software or open source software experience

There is no translation at the arm64 windows driver level, specifically: U shield does not work, printer does not work, and devices that require x86/64 driver do not work.

@ Poster Many big brands support it. In fact, as long as it supports the AirPrint protocol.

Every time the mac mini beggar version attracts a group of people's attention because of its low price, but the application of this thing is very narrow, so the mac mini is the worst-selling model in the mac series
