It became clear today that Mac cannot adapt to resolution

by Poster Nov 8, 2024 38
The host is a Macmini and the monitor is a 27-inch 4k monitor. In order to read the text clearly, the resolution is set to 1080p. I always thought that the resolution would be adaptive when displaying pictures and videos. After all, the screen itself is a 4k screen! I just confirmed today that when playing the video, the resolution is still 1080p, which feels like I'm missing half the content! If I had to switch resolutions every time I watch a 4k video, it would be too much trouble! Do you have any better solutions?

Shouldn't mac be able to adjust the scaling ratio

What alien technology can adapt to resolution

@ Anonymous12155 If there is a demand and someone develops it, there will be functions. It's not that alien technology is impossible.

Does @ Anonymous6195 have this feature? You seem to be talking about adjusting the resolution!

I don't understand what effect you are talking about. Video playback is not point-to-point originally

Isn't the normal idea to increase the scaling ratio of the system? It's okay for you to directly reduce the resolution.

@ Anonymous6195 This setting itself is a resolution adjustment, and the resolution is clearly written below 1504 * 846

I don't even understand what you want to do, what adaptive resolution, the physical resolution of your monitor is always your resolution, what you adjust under [System Settings--Monitor] is actually just the corresponding zoom ratio, so that your physical resolution looks like xxx You can go to the system information to see it yourself Resolution: 5120 x 2880 (5K/UHD +-Ultra HD Plus) UI looks similar: 2560 x 1440 @ Anonymous12158.00 Hz

@ Anonymous12156 Is there a corresponding tool for Mac? If not, you can only use shortcut keys to switch the resolution with the help of software!

@ Poster What you said is wrong, adjusting the resolution and this are two different things. If you adjust the resolution to 1080p, it's the same as in windows, you did adjust the resolution to 1080p. That is to say, at this time, you are displaying a pixel with 4 pixels. And if you adjust the font to a larger size, then he actually adjusted the zoom ratio in Windows, that is to say, the resolution displayed under it is actually css pixel resolution, but it is still physical resolution when actually playing videos and rendering fonts. You can type devicePixelRatio in the browser console, and if you can figure this out, you get it

I don't know much about mac zooming, but zooming on win will not affect your viewing of videos, games and the like. The 4k content it outputs is directly sent to the monitor, and it will not be converted to 1080p before outputting. mac will theoretically only Better is not worse

The setting of @ Anonymous5041 mac is literally confusing, but I think it's just a problem with the copywriting, and it's definitely not a real resolution reduction

I have practiced it, the ones marked with low resolution are really low scores, and those without low resolution are scaling https://i.imgur.com/EgwSO57.png

@ Anonymous4347 I understand that the physical resolution will not change. Now my doubt is that if I adjust the resolution to 1080p, when playing the video, the clarity will not reach 4k, but it will be played at 1080p resolution! This is what I confirmed, with the resolution of 1080p, play a 4k video through movist player, check the playback information, the resolution of the video source is 3840 * 2160 above, and there is another line below that shows 1920 * 1080 (50%). If adjusted to 4k resolution, the following line shows 3840 * 2160 (100%). Therefore, I suspect that 4k video will not be displayed perfectly at 1080p resolution! But when it comes to the look and feel, I don't see much difference. So I always felt before that videos were displayed in physical resolution!

@ Anonymous4837 # 15 I looked at the output parameters received by the monitor and found that what I said was wrong. No matter what I choose, it will be the highest resolution of the output, but when I choose low resolution, it will be explicitly blurred. mac will simulate low resolution before outputting the video signal. Resolution output effect

The following content only represents my personal opinions as a front-end developer. Please correct me if there are any omissions: We can assume that in 2005, in another timeline, everyone used a 24-inch 1080p screen. At this time, web designers and browser developers also have a very easy time, because everyone has the same screen. When laying out, just specify the pixel size directly. Suddenly one day, a manufacturer said: I developed a 24-inch 4k screen. The pixel ratio of landscape and vertical directions has doubled directly, which is so cool. But the web designer is unhappy. If you do this, what about the program I wrote? The physical length of each pixel directly becomes half, which means that what originally looked 5cm is only 2.5 cm on your new monitor, which is too small. How can I adapt it? At this time, the browser and system manufacturer jumped out and said, I thought of a way, and I'll make a conversion for you. Call what you originally used to lay out "CSS pixels", but actually use a scaling ratio (devicePixelRatio) to help you replace it with the real number of physical pixels. Well, that's good. But such 4k pixels are not wasted. Alas, no, because when I do font rendering and video playback, I still use real physical pixels, so it will look clearer. In other words, theoretically, a 24-inch monitor with a 100% zoom ratio of 1080p has the same web page layout as a 24-inch monitor with a 200% zoom ratio of 4k, that is to say, they are both 5cm. But playing video and font rendering will have a higher resolution and weaker jagging.
