Is there a big experience gap between iMac 2017 and M4 Mac mini?

iMac 2017 model, disassembled and upgraded to M.2 1T SSD in the early years, daily browsing the web, watching videos, and occasionally using PS, it is quite smooth -Advantages: 5K screen -Disadvantages: Heavy, the appearance is out of date, and now it looks ugly I want to take advantage of the subsidy to get an M4 Mac mini (I have to buy another monitor...), I don't play games, and I don't involve large apps. Is there a big experience gap compared with Intel iMac?

I'm afraid the only thing to achieve the same screen experience is Studio Display. The degree of system integration and the integration of audio/microphone/camera are at least not degraded. If you are willing to downgrade to 24 inches, then M4 iMac will do. It's good to choose a keyboard with fingerprint recognition. But the depreciation is fast, and upgrading after N years is still equivalent to throwing away a screen.

There are m2 air and 19 27-inch 9900k top-of-the-line imac models. I use imac for daily development and have just upgraded to 64g. The teacher said that I don't feel much performance gap with the m series

@ Anonymous10554 Did you buy the M2 beggar version in October?

Personally, I feel that there is a reverse gap. The mac mini needs to be equipped with a studio display to keep up with the experience of the 27-inch imac. The biggest positive gap is that if you don't stay in the old version of macos without oclp, it will be a very poor experience, and the performance gap is not too obvious for the daily use experience

The memory of the 2017 iMac can be increased to 64g. If the 27-inch 5k screen is perfect, I think it's better than the mac mini. You just buy a 16g memory for a mac mini.

@ Anonymous10308 # 26 Mine can be upgraded to a maximum of 128g, but 64g is enough for the time being, and I will talk about it later when it is not enough. What makes me uncomfortable now is that my system has been staying at 10.15 now, but many apps no longer support updating 10.15. I don't want to update to a subsequent version, after all, it's all for arm optimization.

@ Anonymous8554 can be updated to 12, 12 supports the 2015 iMac, and then it is really optimized for Arm. The 19 models do not only support 64g, but only support 128g in 20 years.

@ Anonymous10308 # 28 supports it, supports 32 * 4, it seems that I will try updating to 12 later and see how many years it lasts, those "new features" are not useful to me at all
