Is Mac mini m4 16 256 enough for Java development?

The original intention of purchasing
I have an idle 27-inch 4k monitor at home, and the fan of the win host used is too big. I have just given birth to a baby at home and have to visit the baby at any time and turn off the host. I have taken a fancy to the low power consumption and silent advantages of the mini m4, so I can turn off the monitor at any time to coax the baby. After the baby falls asleep, turn on the monitor and immediately resume the coding state just now, haha ~
# # # # Usage Scenario
For daily Java back-end development, open up to 2 IDEAs at the same time, open connection tools such as Navicat and Xshell, WeChat, NetEase Cloud, Chrome browser, etc.!
# # # # Planned Use
I want to install docker on mini, and then install the database, redis, and message middleware on docker. I wonder if the memory can satisfy it? Has anyone tested it? Ask for advice ~
Plans for the future
Take the mini m4 as a transition machine, and later want to build a high-performance MBP, which can be a large memory and large storage model in one step.

Anonymous11537 Nov 12, 2024I'm afraid it's a bit tight to do java in 16G

Anonymous2148 Nov 12, 2024You can try it, it is estimated that it will work, but it is definitely not sufficient. No, 15 days refund anyway

Anonymous11538 Nov 12, 2024I also want to buy it, but 32 G notebook memory feels like it is not enough. 64 G is better, and 16 G is too tight.

Anonymous11539 Nov 12, 2024Why not buy a cloud server to install Redis database message middleware? Exclude these 16g is enough

Anonymous5755 Nov 12, 202416 +256 M1 Mac mini's main development machine has no pressure, but my premise is not to use docker

Poster Nov 12, 2024@ Anonymous11537 I think too, so I posted to ask, but I use it lightly at home and want to try it. The company also has a 32GB win host. I wonder if the memory optimization of mac is better

Poster Nov 12, 2024@ Anonymous2148 jd bought it, and it can't be returned after unpacking it. By the way, my mini won't be shipped until November 22nd, which is sad ~

Poster Nov 12, 2024@ Anonymous11538 I use it lightly at home, mainly to look at the source code for running tests, not to distribute microservices, so I want to buy it and try it; The main reason is that this year's mini m4 does not increase the price when it increases the quantity, and it is smaller. I couldn't help but buy it after brushing it at night hahaha ~

Poster Nov 12, 2024@ Anonymous11539 I have a cloud host. It just expired and released yesterday. I don't want to buy it again. The company's server has a set of basic implementation services in use. The lightweight server I bought at a special price at that time cost less than 100 yuan a year, but the renewal fee cost 1,400 +, so I gave up if it was not cost-effective ~

Anonymous6247 Nov 12, 2024It is not a big problem to open one or two projects, provided that you don't open virtual machines and Docker

Poster Nov 12, 2024@ Anonymous11538 You can go to the seafood market to see the second-hand M2 max Mac Studio, some of which are quite fragrant ~

Poster Nov 12, 2024@ Anonymous6247 uses Docker mainly to do centralized management of databases and middleware. If the memory is not rich, I have to give up. However, I still have ThinkPad. If I can't use it for infrastructure, it's also a solution!

Anonymous6247 Nov 12, 2024@ Poster # 12 Buy a silent small host, install Linux, native Docker, aren't you happy? Anyway, running middleware for development doesn't require any performance, just have enough memory

Anonymous11538 Nov 12, 2024@ Poster Every year, Tencent's lightweight cloud anniversary celebration (anniversary flash sale on the evening of September 26th) can buy an annual 88 yuan/year 2-core 4G.

Anonymous11403 Nov 12, 2024It is estimated that it will be tight if you open a few ideas

Anonymous3392 Nov 12, 2024Definitely 32 experience best... Developing java eats memory wow
-
Anonymous6009 Nov 12, 2024Just turn down the win host fan and solve the problem
-
Anonymous3957 Nov 12, 2024Not enough, starting at 32G

Anonymous4281 Nov 12, 202416g is estimated to be just enough for you. If you open a few more pages in the browser, you may swap it. If the budget is not tight, I suggest you go to 24g or 32g.
