Ask questions about the performance of Mac mini M4

by Poster Nov 18, 2024 13
Is the Mac mini M4 a big boost? I'd like to ask, I'm a hackintosh player. Currently using nuc10 -CPU: i5-10210 -Memory: 64G -Hard disk: 256G The recently released Mac mini is very popular, and I want to switch to Ginkgo. But Apple's memory and hard disk are too small compared to my current one. I would like to ask the bosses what they think

I used to think that the arm chip was a toy. The company issued an arm mac and used it for two years. This is the top cpu for writing code, and there will definitely be no performance problems. But your memory is indeed a problem, at least 32G

Let's look at this CPU comparison: https://browser.geekbench.com/processors/intel-core-i5-10210u https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/8791920 It costs a lot of money to upgrade 64G of memory.

CPU is not a problem, memory 16g open jb home to write code no problem.. The hard disk can only be expanded On the whole, memory is more difficult to meet. If you have a large memory requirement, you can dissuade it, but it is not so heavy, so it should be fine.. I am currently coding on the 8g m1 air. I can hold it when I turn on pycharm and idea, but the pressure on the machine is not small

The CPU has been greatly improved, mainly because the memory of 16g is definitely not as good as yours, the added memory money is not cheap, but the hard disk can be expanded by Thunderbolt

The biggest charm of the Apple m series is its power consumption and lightness. For example, I used to casually use 200w on 10900k and 3060. The daily use of the mac is only about 10w, and I don't feel distressed without shutting down. Most of the memory of Apple computers is enough. Yes, 8g was used for previous development

Then continue to use yours, the memory is too far away

I have been developing and using 16G M1 for several years. Of course, some services are put on the server. However, I still recommend trying macOS under arm. It's really cool. I was also a black fruit player before. I tossed with the hardware in the early stage, and I didn't dare to upgrade when there were new functions in the later stage. No matter how much I tossed, I still couldn't achieve perfection, and the performance was beaten by the M chip. Later, M1 came out and decisively abandoned Black Fruit

I think development still needs to start with 24g, and this 16g will explode if you open a few web pages and IDEs

@ Anonymous2802 Please send the picture of memory pressure. Thank you, who can't say hi?

@ Anonymous1866 If you think so, then that's it.

@ Anonymous2802 8g won't get stuck when opening dozens of web pages, which really underestimates the cache and virtual memory. Unless everything has to run locally and open several virtual machines or docker instances, I don't understand why 16gb is not enough. Mouth hi

@ Anonymous8959 You are right, just think of my 64g m4pro as an IQ tax.

@ Anonymous2802 you have your scenario, I am talking about the above scenario
