macmini extension hard drive

by Poster Dec 6, 2024 14
I will get a macmini m4 low-end in two days. Check on the Internet to install the system into the Thunderbolt port external hard drive, with large capacity and faster than the built-in?! Is there any friend who has done this? Please introduce the experience or pitfalls. Thank you Thank you

If you have an idle 1TB/2TB M.2 SSD in your hand, then buy a Thunderbolt hard drive box. There are a lot of tutorials on installing the system in an external hard drive box on Station B. Just follow it step by step. White Apple Installing an external system is very simple If you don't have an extra SSD in your hand, then I suggest not buying a Thunderbolt hard disk box yet. You can wait and see the expansion service. After a while, the technology of directly replacing the hard disk board should mature

Now the solid-state external USB hard disk box is very stable. I also installed the system to the U disk, so I need to change the traditional concept. However, it is completely stress-free to install a low-end 256G system normally. I bought a bunch of hard drives purely to install windows games, and I don't have to think about this at all under Apple.

@ Anonymous1866 Good understanding. There may be problems with the warranty of the small board for expansion. After all, the new one is still a bit unbearable.

@ Anonymous3321 Okay. I have space phobia, so my previous mba m1 was expanded to 2T before I could use it with peace of mind.

There is no need to change the system location, the beggar version of the software should be enough, and other videos and other things should be put on the external hard drive. I put in a disk with games and time machines.

I also want to be the same as the original poster. Do you recommend a cheap small hard disk box with stable heating? Speed is not very important. After all, I don't copy files every day

@ Anonymous2357 probably read the online articles and combined with his own experience. Install the software on the built-in disk, there is not enough space; Install the software on the external disk, and a bunch of files will still be written to the built-in disk; So if the external large hard drive is installed with the system, if it is stable enough, it feels like it meets my needs...

@ Anonymous1340 Grip the claw. I roughly glanced at it and found that the low-speed one costs 100 +, and the high-speed one with fan costs 500 +. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, confused

There is no need to move the system outside, and store the files on the external hard disk in the form of soft links, which does not affect the file structure and is convenient.

Added a speed of soft connection, a built-in speed. I can't accept cyber obsessive-compulsive disorder, my question ~

Why install the system on an external hard drive? Faster? Xiaobai is puzzled

Wait for the small board, which is more stable than the external urine bag. As for the warranty or not, it doesn't matter, because the probability of breaking is too low

I bought a Thunderbolt 4 hard disk box, plus the previous sn640, and the experience was pretty good.

Just wait for the small board to be replaced directly. As for the impact of disassembly on the warranty, I remember that cleaning MacBook dust does not affect the warranty. In the same way, mini should be similar. And when there is a problem with the mini, only the circuit is struck by lightning and an earthquake falls. XD
