@ Anonymous2440 Is there a way to successfully install the system without erasing

Normal upgrade Do not wipe the system on the built-in disk, it can be upgraded normally If it doesn't work again, change the port of the external disk

@ Anonymous2440 I don't enter recovery mode, it will restart halfway through the upgrade, and then it is said that I still need to wait 11 minutes. When the time is up, I enter the system and the original version, and the above error is reported

@ Anonymous13187 I tried changing the port, but the built-in disk was not erased, so I upgraded to 15.4 normally.

@ Anonymous5653 I haven't tried it yet. I can get in with the built-in system. The Internet said that changing the interface may work. I will try it later. The main information is in the external hard drive. I don't want to erase it and reinstall it

I upgraded, 15.4. External system. However, before upgrading the external system version to be higher than the built-in system, I want to switch back to the built-in system, directly gg, and keep restoring mode.

Replaced a new Macmini (15.4 system) and plugged in the previous system external hard drive (15.3) can't start and report 104 error, then erased and reinstalled. At present, it is stuck when installing "Failed to prepare software update. Please try again.", very painful. I don't know where the problem is.

https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/1joj6f3/cant_update_m1_pro_mbp_to_sequoia_154/ Look at this post, many people have encountered, 15.3.2 upgrade is no problem, but cross-version upgrade or wipe disk reinstallation to the latest, all crash, 15.4 has big bugs, and I happened to reinstall the system in these two days, just let me encounter this bug, toss me a day depressed me a day..

Normal upgrade, the built-in is not formatted, but I split the internal hard drive into a piece to make Time Machine https://i.imgur.com/S4KQJwJ.png

Built-in 15.4 RC tries to install the latest version of macOS on the external hard drive through recovery mode-> failed, cannot start Built-in 15.4 RC tried to download the latest 15.3.2 complete image, and installed it on the external hard drive in macOS-> failed. It exploded with the built-in system, and the recovery mode could not be entered. Even when booting without an external hard drive, it flashed sos. dfu back to 15.3.2, try recovery mode install 15.3.2-> successful External 15.3.2 Attempted to upgrade 15.4 RC-> Successful

    1. Enter recovery mode and close sip 2. Select to reinstall the system in recovery mode, and select the external disk for installation 3. After successful installation, restart and enter the external disk system, check whether it is a new system version, and then enter recovery mode to turn on sip Because the system installed to the external disk is in snapshot mode, modification is not allowed. Only after closing sip can you modify the external system in recovery mode

Follow-up: 15.4 RC1 (24E246)-> 15.4 release fails to update properly without any additional prompts and no response after restarting. Internal hard disk 15.3.2-> 15.4 release updates normally

@ Poster worked, with this line of code sudo softwareupdate-i-a The estimated problem is that the system update service may have failed, preventing the update from being prepared.
