Recommended osx version of intel's mac in 2025

rt, the device I have is 19 models of imac, installed with 10.15. 7 for the elderly. Actually, I'm quite satisfied with it. I just use it to write code and do nothing else, but many apps are beginning to gradually stop supporting such old versions. Of course, I can continue to use it as well. However, at present, I rely more on cursor. The new version of cursor no longer supports such an old system, so I have no choice but to consider upgrading.
But if you upgrade at present, I feel that the subsequent versions are basically optimized for m1 devices. Not to mention the further decline of intel's performance, there will be newer bugs. I don't know which version to upgrade to so I can continue to use it for a few years. What is your version, or do you have a recommended version? Thanks, 🙏

Anonymous11515 Apr 7, 2025The 15 models have been upgraded to Ventuna 13.7.4 using OpenCore Legacy Patcher, and it feels okay. Mainly because the old version of brew is no longer supported

Anonymous11632 Apr 7, 2025@ Anonymous11515 # 22 My mba is 12, and some apps don't support it now. I'm thinking about upgrading to 14 or 13, but I'm afraid that the more I upgrade, the more pitfalls there will be, and the stability of the working machine will take priority

Anonymous11516 Apr 7, 2025Sounds like an iMac, if you can accept a Linux desktop, consider Ubuntu Unity.

Anonymous11517 Apr 7, 2025Just reinstall or upgrade to macOS 12. I have 18 MBP, standard configuration. I upgraded to 13, 14, and 15 step by step before. The fan was busy (the machine has been disassembled and cleaned + replaced with silicone grease), and it was retreated to 12. It's clean. Your imac, logically speaking, has stronger heat dissipation. You can try 15 and see how it goes. If it doesn't work, retreat to 12.

Anonymous11632 Apr 22, 2025@ Anonymous11519 # 38 I upgraded to sonoma. I have been using it all night. It's fine so far. I don't know if your mac is imac or macbook. If it's imac, you can try upgrading. At present, I don't feel that the performance is affected. I hope it will be useful to you.
