[Problem Feedback] Mac mirroring iPhone function is abnormal: stuck and unable to reconnect. Detailed description of the problem (macOS 15.4 iOS 18.4)
π± equipment and system information:
β’ Mac model and system version: macOS Sonoma 15.4 (version 24E248)
β’ iPhone model and system version: iOS 18.4
β’ Mirroring method: Use the "iPhone Mirroring" function to cast screens on Mac, receive notifications and control iPhone
Problem description (restore usage scenario):
During daily office work or testing, I use the "iPhone Mirroring" function on the Mac to pair with the iPhone. Under normal circumstances, I can receive and click iPhone notifications through the Mac, and even operate the iPhone interface directly on the Mac, which greatly improves efficiency (fish π).
However, when the mirroring function remains mounted in the Mac background for a period of time (such as not actively used for several hours), the following problem process occurs:
1. Abnormal start: A notification from the iPhone pops up on the Mac. After clicking, it is found that the iPhone mirror window cannot be activated normally, and the interface is unresponsive.
2. The iPhone behaves abnormally:
β’ After unlocking the iPhone, enter the home screen and swipe left and right normally;
β’ However, clicking on any App icon does not respond, and entering the App fails;
β’ The only thing available is to slide from the upper right corner into the control center, indicating that the touch has not been completely disabled;
β’ Apps cannot be opened, closed, or switched in the normal way.
3. Must restart:
β’ The only solution is to force restart the iPhone (Volume + β Volume-β Long press the power button);
β’ After restarting, iPhone operation returns to normal.
4. Mac mirroring function fails:
β’ Try to reopen the "iPhone Mirroring" window on Mac, and it prompts that the device cannot be connected;
β’ You must go to "System Settings" β "iPhone Mirroring" β revoke the device access permission and re-establish the connection to resume normal use.
Chance of recurrence:
β’ The problem occurs sporadically, but it has been repeated many times during multiple uses;
β’ The preliminary judgment is related to the fact that the mirroring function has been in a "suspended" state in the background for a long time.
π speculated the reason (technical point of view):
β’ Abnormal system resource scheduling or connection status: The mirrored connection between Mac and iPhone may have entered some kind of "hibernation" or "inactive" state when there is no interaction for a long time, resulting in the inability to re-awaken a valid session when clicking on the notification.
β’ Interface stuck may cause the mirror service to hijack input failure: When the Mac clicks the notification to try to control the iPhone, it may send an incomplete or wrong control signal, causing the iPhone interface logic to get stuck.
β’ Connection status is not cleaned correctly: Even if the iPhone returns to normal after restarting, the old connection status remaining on the Mac is not reset correctly, resulting in the mirroring function not being restored and must be manually revoked and re-authorized.
Current temporary solution in β
:
β’ It is recommended that users turn off the mirroring service on Mac after the mirroring is suspended for a long time, and then click on the notification or try to control it;
β’ If there is a jam problem, after forcing the restart of the iPhone as described above, remember to undo the mirroring connection in the Mac settings and then reconnect.

I hope the Apple development team can pay attention to and optimize this issue. Other users are also welcome to share similar experiences or provide more clues to help locate the problem.

Anonymous897 Apr 9, 2025It may be related to the power usage strategy. Try to keep the iphone charged to see

Poster Apr 9, 2025@ Anonymous897 It's more cool that both Mac and iPhone are plugged in I checked and found that it may have something to do with the iPhone plug-in turned on on the Mac, but it's a bit metaphysical.

Anonymous4868 Apr 10, 2025I also encountered it, and then the universal clipboard was also wasted. 15.4 is really a bunch of bugs
