How to use the fingerprint button to boot the phone when the screen is off?

by Poster Apr 19, 2025 9
I pressed the fingerprint button directly, and the screen lit up and then went black. It doesn't light up when you put your finger on the fingerprint key. Now my only way is to press the touchpad to light up the screen first, and then unlock it with the fingerprint key. I don't think it's the best way, right?

The Sleep state can be directly unlocked by fingerprint, without "pressing"

@ Anonymous4867 It is invalid when the screen is turned off, and it will not unlock if you don't press it... I am the same confused as OP...

So my mba is the same. If you press the fingerprint directly, you have to press it to unlock it, otherwise there will be no response.

I only had a similar problem with the old Magic Keyboard (later Touch ID was completely broken) Now the 2024 USB-C port keyboard and MBA can light up the screen and unlock it by touching Touch ID (MBA generally just leaves the box cover and waits for the screen to go out before touching)

First, press the edge of the power button to light up the screen, and then press the middle

When pressing the fingerprint, put the palm of your hand on the palm rest. This may be the reason why there is no response when pressing it directly. If I really can't wake up directly, I usually press delete next to it to wake up and then print my fingerprint.

I've never had this problem before It feels like you just press the power to release but keep your hands off the button? It feels like this process in recollection but I never thought about it before today

I usually press the space bar to light up the screen, and then tap the fingerprint key to unlock it.

That's how it's designed, you can't wake up your MacBook with just a fingerprint
