Is there any difference between adding a web page to the iOS/iPadOS home screen and opening it directly with Safari?

Recently, in order to comply with Apple/Google Store policy requirements, the remote streaming function was cancelled in XBOX APP. If you need to stream, you need to go to xbox.com/remote and add the page to your desktop. I originally thought that this action of adding to the desktop was just for ease of operation, but I found that if I didn't add to the desktop and enter through the desktop, the remote streaming would be stuck in the step of selecting the host, and there would be no reaction when I clicked on the host. On mac, everything is normal, the browser is opened and the host is selected to enter the streaming; iPad/iPhone must add the page to the desktop and then enter it, so I would like to ask if there is any difference between the page on the home screen and Safari?

After adding the desktop, it can be used as a separate app and not mixed with the browser

@ Anonymous448 It's okay not to mix, but why does Safari directly access it stuck on the page of selecting the host and can't get through? This makes me feel that if added to the desktop, there may be some new features.

More like a piece of software without the toolbar? pwa software like miniflux is very smooth to use.

@ Anonymous13744 Actually, my doubt is why it is impossible to use safari directly. I think the difference is that there is no toolbar, but there should be no difference else. Of course, it is also possible that Microsoft will detect whether it is pwa for the sake of user experience? If not, don't enter the cloud game interface? (After all, having a toolbar does affect the experience)

@ Poster I don't know much about the specific front-end implementation, but I guess, just guess, maybe some marks on the page have changed after adding it to the home screen, which makes Microsoft recognize it as a usable logo.

The front end can detect whether it is at pwa. Secondly, Microsoft does this because Apple does not allow merchants and does not divide money. After you add it to the home screen, it is almost the same as a normal APP

@ Anonymous8482 I know the reason for canceling the series connection, because xbox has opened the channel to recharge xgp and buy games on mobile phones. At the same time, if this app provides a series function, it will be regarded as a game app. If you buy xgp and games, you will be taxed 30% in-app purchase tax by Apple and Google. If the front end can detect it, everything makes sense, that is, Microsoft detects that if it is iOS and is not in pwa mode, it won't enter the streaming page. However, I don't think Microsoft is doing very well. Now select the host interface. If it is not under pwa, there is no response when clicking. It should be able to make a prompt to add to the desktop to become pwa

It's supposed to be for full screen. Full screen can only be achieved in PWA mode. ios will give some additional permissions to PWA, such as web push. But cloud games don't seem to be used. The only possibility I can think of is full screen.
