iPhone external m2 ssd is really unstable

I recently bought a USB3.2gen 2 hard drive, and it turned out to be extremely unstable on the iPhone. Sometimes you don't recognize the disk when you plug it in, sometimes you can recognize it and then drop it after a while. The same hard drive is normal on the iPad.
At first, I suspected that it was a power supply problem, so I tested the output power with a pd tester.
The iPad can output a maximum of 7.5 w, and the iPhone can output 4.5 w. Then I plugged in the external hard drive and found that it is actually enough to only stabilize the output power of 2w (when copying files with full load, it will be lower if no load)
When the iPhone recognizes the disk, it looks normal, and it basically has another 2w output, but after the disk is dropped, the power jumps back and forth from less than 1w to 2w.
I have tried it on both iPhone16pro and 16pm, and they are all in the same situation. I wonder how effective the external hard drive on your iPhone is?

Anonymous5910 Apr 30, 2025SanDisk's E81 is quite stable. But once it is connected, don't mess with the hard disk, fix it

Poster Apr 30, 2025@ Anonymous5910 I'm iPad everything works fine, iPhone is extremely unstable. But in fact, I don't need iPhone external ssd. I'm just curious to ask you about your situation. Or maybe my compatibility with this ssd is not very good? 😂

Anonymous448 Apr 30, 2025Samsung's disk is very stable. I never dropped it when I was shooting the video. The machine is 15pm

Anonymous6020 Apr 30, 2025In fact, it is power supply. 15p with ssd, it always drops, and then after trying to bring an externally powered hub, it is very stable

Anonymous358 Apr 30, 2025I feel like it's a problem with your hard drive + hard drive box. I have several mobile hard drives with this diy combination, and they all have some minor problems. Later, I bought a Samsung t7 and it was very stable. The pursuit of speed of mobile hard drives is not as good as the pursuit of stability

Poster Apr 30, 2025@ Anonymous358 This is possible, but the iPad is very stable. Considering that there are few external hard drive scenarios for the iPhone, I won't change the hard drive case. 😂, 😂, 😂

Anonymous14665 May 5, 2025Test whether it is a problem with the hard disk box. If you want stability, buy the Samsung t series
