How to temporarily use an iPad as a monitor for a desktop

by Poster May 13, 2025 17
Let me talk about my situation. I usually go out with my desktop, ipad and macbook. I am now thinking is there any way to temporarily make the ipad connect to the desktop to use as a monitor? My main need is that I don't want to bring an extra monitor for my desktop, so I can use my macbook to connect remotely, but the desktop needs to enter a password, public wifi needs connection authentication, etc. After the connection is successful, I still need to get the ip to connect remotely from my macbook. Is there any way I can temporarily make a monitor with my ipad at this stage? Or there are other ways to temporarily connect a screen to the desktop.

Get a capture card, connect it to a desktop computer and plug it into an ipad?

Sell your macbook and replace it with a portable screen, and you can have several good meals with the rest of the money. Don't think about messing around You have a desktop, you must have a car, and the portable screen doesn't weigh much more I can't think of any scenario where you need to carry a desktop + notebook + tablet with you

First open a hotspot for the desktop computer and connect it remotely. Open a third-party remote desktop such as toDesk and rustDesk, and then connect to public wifi. In this way, you can operate through the third-party remote desktop. You can also see the LAN IP and then switch to WindowsApp to connect.

There is another way, you use maccbook to allocate a fixed IP to your PC with a hotspot all the time. You can always use this IP to connect to your PC. As for your macbook, you can connect it to any wifi.

In the early years, I bought Duet Display as an extended display for PC, but it didn't work well and returned it. I don't know if it will work as the main monitor now.

I forgot to mention, is my ipad 9 or the previous lighting port? Is the capture card road not working now?

@ Poster doesn't work because the l port is USB2 and the bandwidth (speed 480m) is not enough. Similarly, none of the physical wired plans are suitable, and you can only consider the Wi-Fi plan.
