It's 2025. Is the hard disk box ASM2464 solution stable?

by Poster May 19, 2025 36
I have been saying before that this solution generates too much heat and is easy to drop off the disk. Basically, I recommend 7440. Is it recommended to use the Mac Mini M4 with the ASM2464 solution now?

Why don't you have to use 2464 if you have 7440?

Add a magnetic heat dissipation of tens of dollars for stable use

The 7440 is not much more expensive. I've been using the 7440 for over three months with no problems.

@ Anonymous11831 Which brand, can you recommend it?

The calorific value of ITGZ is okay, as long as it costs more than 100

I've been hanging itgz and I've never seen it drop, but it's really hot. There is an external magnetic semiconductor heat dissipation, which is always icy, and the fan makes no sound, which is okay

I'm using the fanless model, but it's quite stable except for a little heat. The temperature is about 50 + in standby, and a lot of reading and writing is 60 +

@ Anonymous5720 Is your system installed in an external disk?

    @ Anonymous2897 System plug-in or built-in storage?

ITGZ 2464 I just used it today. I installed a developer tool and ran a project. It feels slightly hot to the touch. I wonder if it will burn ssd. Ow... Now put the hard disk box on the metal base of the monitor, the temperature is slightly lower, but it also feels hot, and the macmini feels hotter than before without the urine bag

I really want to know the difference between the thunderbolt hard drive case (40gbps) discussed by op and the usb hard drive case (10gbps) with more than 100 pieces. I have a 1t ordinary m2 hard disk box. I tested it with hard disk software. The random reading and writing is also quite excellent, which is about 30% ~ 60% of the level of the internal hard disk. Sequential reading and writing is the upper limit level of 10g hard disk cartridge. Occasionally, running a win virtual machine is considered smooth. The biggest advantage of the 40g Thunderbolt hard disk box is definitely the peak speed of copying large files, but what kind of work requires frequent copying of large files? Very few. Four or five times the price difference, I want to buy it, but I feel that I can't tell the difference. I save movies/backup files most of the time.

@ Anonymous9667 Moreover, the usbc port, no matter how expensive the hard disk box is, has a probability that it will be disconnected when touched (the pins of the c port are too narrow). If you install the core system or development project files in the external hard disk, is it really not easy to lose it? https://i.imgur.com/MAyk5GN. png

    @ Poster # 9 Yeah

@ Anonymous9667 Most people use it without any difference, only the usefulness of running scores is obviously different. The stability of a well-made USB C interface is still acceptable, it is not so easy to disconnect, and the core data will definitely be backed up, and there is a chance that you will fail if you use the built-in hard disk

@ Poster did not install the system in the mobile hard disk

@ Anonymous9667 The price of USB4 hard disk box with ASM2464 chip is not that high. I just looked at it. The Taobao activity price of a certain brand is 200-20, and you can buy it for 145. Of course, those using Intel Thunderbolt chips are more expensive.

Why not wait for JHL9480 or PS2251-21

ASM2464 has been used for half a year. I use the cheapest model from ITGZ, plus two aluminum heat sinks: Width 50MM, height 35MM, length 100MM Width 35, height 25MM, length 100MM Extremely stable and because there is no fan, there is no noise either

I'm also struggling with which one to buy. At present, the 256G is not full yet. There are nas and low-speed hard disk boxes to support it first. Let's see if there is anything suitable for the 618
