Is there any remote disaster recovery for your data backup?

* * Stacked armor, data is priceless, and everyone attaches different importance to data; I don't understand why I think so much, please click If you are not interested to quit * * The main reasons for not considering large-capacity cloud disk storage are: 1. Private data do not want to be put in the cloud 2. Cloud disk subscription cost gpt says it can be left at a friend's house, or at the company But I think these two are inappropriate, so how to achieve remote disaster recovery ! [p] (https://i.imgur.com/jLBZZUd.png) I think different places are also quite important: So how do I achieve remote disaster recovery? One left at home and one left in the car? ! 1. Clouds are also distinguished. Don't kill them with one stroke. Chinese cloud (Alibaba Cloud network disk, etc.), foreign cloud does not consider the country (iCloud, onedrive, googledrive). From a privacy perspective. Just put some power drama episodes in China Cloud, Yunha, a major foreign manufacturer who cares about privacy. 2. I also considered going to the cloud, and then solving all the problems with homelab + NAS, but I feel that first, my technology and hardware reliability are not as good as those of Dachang Cloud. Secondly, I consider electricity bills, maintenance costs, energy, and even power outage protection measures. Under factors such as off-site NAS disaster recovery, the cost is actually much higher than the cost of using Dachang Cloud. 3. If you use Dachang Cloud, you can't believe it all. As mentioned in 14 # above, iCloud is sometimes unreliable. I don't have a NAS, so I still have to follow the 321 principle: -Photo: iCloud2T, the cost of sharing in low-priced areas is very low. At the same time, use icloudpd to synchronize one copy of the computer every 7 days, and at the same time, FreeFileSync one copy to the mobile hard disk (achieve 321) -Password: Use enpass, the vault is placed on your own network disk onedrive or gdrive, and the master password is encrypted and synchronized by the cloud disk (then the FreeFileSync every 7 days in the previous step is also synchronized and backed up to the mobile hard disk) -Ordinary files: local computer, without migration to the cloud, only FreeFileSync mobile hard drive. If you improve it, you can migrate to the cloud. It is not expensive to spell a OneDrive -Domain-specific files such as code: In addition to the above-mentioned local backup (cloud backup), you can also synchronize backup management in repositories such as github. As for whether it is encrypted or not, it mainly depends on the degree of privacy and security. It is recommended to make a distinction. Among the above items: -All the photos use the cloud of major foreign manufacturers, which is not encrypted. -Password key 2fa, it is definitely privacy and security, and the safes that are located come with encryption saved and synchronized. -Ordinary files, no security issues, and placed in the cloud of major foreign manufacturers, are not encrypted -Code warehouse, there are no special settings. If you care about privacy and security, set the online warehouse to private. My plan above basically achieves 321, and takes personal privacy and data security into account. At present, the only ordinary file that I haven't done is migrated to the cloud. The main reason why I haven't done it is that I feel that my ordinary files are really ordinary, and it doesn't matter if I lose them, so now I only have a local backup on my mobile hard disk. Finally, I would like to note that I don't use icloud cloud disk, I only use icloud photos. The reason is the same as mentioned in 14 # above. icloud is actually a synchronization with backup function. From the perspective of infrastructure strength, security, product experience, and cross-platform, I think OneDrive may be more reliable in terms of file cloud disk synchronization. FYI.

    1. Private data do not want to be put in the cloud 2. Cloud disk subscription cost It certainly won't convince you to change your opinion on these two points. Because everyone's situation is different, the definition of privacy is different. However, the cost of Dachang Cloud is not high now icloud can share rides with low-priced areas, and OneDrive can share office365's family car is not expensive. The key is peace of mind.

Let's not talk about the cost issue first, the main reason is that it is too troublesome to maintain it yourself. I used to work in two places and three centers to back up my data. Every few months, there were sudden network disconnections and power outages. Later, UPS was added and a bunch of automated scripts were written to deal with this kind of problem, and the situation was better. But the bandwidth problem of home broadband has always been a difficult problem. Calculate before each backup However, because I pursue cost performance, I buy a second-hand server. Almost every six months, I have to deal with all kinds of server blue screen of death problems, such as memtest, disk surface test, full data availability detection (HASH detection), incremental synchronization or even full synchronization. Due to the small bandwidth of home wide bands, full synchronization is very time-consuming, taking at least half a month at a time. Later, someone else gave me a Lenovo workstation notebook with 64GB of memory and 11th generation i7. Then I just ruined it, threw away all the previous systems and started it again. I installed Win11 + VMwareWorkstationPro on this notebook, and then bought two ORICO 5-bay USB disk cabinets, which contained several second-hand 12TB Hitachi mechanical disks. Install Debian 12 + OpenZFS on VMware Workstation, OpenZFS manages the disk cabinet, build a RAID Z1 + 1 hot spare disk, use no SSD for cache, and turn off the real-time deduplication and compression functions of OpenZFS. Samba for OpenZFS servers accepts home computer backups and SFTP for OpenZFS SSH accepts company computer backups. Public network security uses IP whitelist. IPTABLES whitelists the C segment of the company's IPv4 + fail2ban. The public network uses SSH-protected SFTP instead of Samba. Automated backup, the most powerful enterprise-level backup software for Windows, SyncBack Pro, has a learning version on Baidu. On Linux, I use Python to write scripts to control rsync for backup, adding log writing before backup, speed and progress reporting during backup, HASH checking before and after backup, etc. The SFTP client on Windows uses the open source WinFSP + SSHFS-Win + SSHFS-Win-Manager. This open source software often fails, and Windows has to be restarted every ten days. However, the software updates and Updates on Windows are probably the same. This time, so I didn't find it troublesome either. This whole set of simple-functional rotten system has been running stably for several years.

@ Anonymous7090 After reading your plan, I am determined to continue to use the cloud of major foreign manufacturers + regular mobile hard disk backup plan

@ Anonymous2338 The amount of data is small, so it is certainly more convenient to use cloud services. I have a very large amount of data, so it is not cost-effective to use cloud services.

@ Anonymous7090 It is indeed different. Then there's nothing we can do. For me, as long as the photo and password are the most important. Others are dispensable.
