Does my iMac 24 have too little memory?

I just bought the iMac 24 with 8 gigabytes of memory. I was playing the game Hearthstone yesterday and checked the memory for curiosity. I found that it was less than 1 gigabyte and nothing else was turned on. I would like to ask a friend, is 8 g enough?

Anonymous1359 Jul 24, 2021Your way of looking at memory is actually 16g is not enough Although 8g is indeed not enough, your argument is a bit unreasonable. The memory footprint of macOS tends to be full

Anonymous5361 Jul 24, 2021mac uses as much as you want. If you have extra memory, you will give priority to loading commonly used software into the memory, so that you can open it quickly. 8G is actually not as scary as mentioned above, but it is true that it is better to buy 16G for iMac based on the principle that it can be used for a few more years. Now I open an IDE and a tower with M1 8G memory. I basically have 1G left on the web page and WeChat. It's a little tight, but it can be used.

Anonymous5363 Jul 24, 2021The windows machine has been upgraded to 16g, which is only 6g for daily use, and 10g for opening a game, and the rest will not be used..

Anonymous5364 Jul 24, 2021Don't say what * nix will fill up the memory. In 2021, all mainstream operating systems have memory caches and memory compression, not in 1998

Poster Jul 24, 2021Thank you, everyone. Now I'm finally relieved.

Anonymous2893 Jul 24, 2021I see if anyone is misleading people. macOS thinks that it is a waste to leave empty memory unused, so it always tends to fill up all the memory, for example, by saving more used apps in memory and caching files that may be used in memory, so as to speed up the system. I have used both 8G and 16G myself, and then went back to 8G from 16G, because no matter which one, the free memory I use is about 1G, and the system occupancy of 8G memory is 4G, and the system occupancy of 16G memory is 8G. As far as my needs are concerned, there is no difference in using it. 8G memory can indeed meet the needs of most Mac users.

Anonymous620 Jul 24, 2021https://support.apple.com/zh-cn/guide/activity-monitor/actmntr34865/10.14/mac/11.0 In the Activity Monitor App on your Mac, click Memory (or use the touch bar). The Memory Pressure graph gives you an idea of whether your computer is using memory effectively. Green Memory Pressure: Your PC is effectively using all its memory. Yellow Memory Pressure: Your PC may end up needing more memory. Red Memory Pressure: The computer needs more memory. If memory pressure turns yellow, red, or spikes, check that the App is taking up all memory and causing memory pressure to increase. If you no longer need to run an App, you should exit the App. Determine whether your computer is using memory effectively by measuring the amount of available memory, swap rate, linkage memory and file cache memory to accurately calculate the memory pressure of your computer.
