I suddenly seem to understand why the new iMac has such a wide chin

Watching mkbhd's new studio tour, I saw a brother say that he likes to use the chin of an old iMac pro to stick notes, and I thought of my previous boss to stick a row of notes on the lower edge of the display screen.

Anonymous3901 Jul 29, 2021There is no sticky note app in the app store?
-
Anonymous3902 Jul 29, 2021@ Anonymous3901 If it refers to macOS, there is a stickies.app that comes with the system, which can be opened by spotlight search

Poster Jul 29, 2021@ Anonymous3901 # 1 There should be, that brother himself said that he is the only one in the studio who uses analog note taker, but sometimes I feel that it is more convenient to write this kind of note

Anonymous3903 Jul 29, 2021Very easy to use. Now that I use ultrafine 5K, the lower edge is much narrower and it doesn't stick firmly.
-
Anonymous3904 Jul 29, 2021Although I am also an Apple user, this one is still too far-fetched. Personal understanding is just like the camera protrusion of iPhone and iPad, pursuing the ultimate thin and light design compromise.
-
Anonymous2884 Jul 29, 2021Doesn't make sense 1. The stickable area of the sticky note is very narrow. Why should the chin height be the same as that of the sticky note? 2. Why do you want to meet the needs of a few people, such as [sticking notes under the monitor], to install such a big chin?
-
Anonymous3905 Jul 29, 2021@ Anonymous2884 The main thing is that I don't think the chin is ugly at all. Aesthetics is inherently subjective. Is it the demand of most people that the four sides are equal in width?
-
Anonymous3906 Jul 29, 2021@ Anonymous3905 Whether the chin looks good or not is indeed a subjective will... but if you make a thicker screen with a screen ratio close to 100%, the visual impact is really different.
-
Anonymous3907 Jul 29, 2021@ Anonymous3901 directly sticking a note to the screen chin is a completely different experience from using a note app...
-
Anonymous3908 Jul 29, 2021I think this is to maintain product features, so that you can know that this is a mac without looking at the logo
-
Anonymous2884 Jul 29, 2021@ Anonymous3905 Don't have "that big chin" and it's not equal width on all sides.. The trend of display bezels is to become narrower and narrower. Isn't this what most people want? Look at Apple's own Pro Display XDR
-
Anonymous3684 Jul 29, 2021Originally, it was deliberately designed to distinguish monitors. If you want to eliminate the chin, the previous generation and imac of the previous generation can be removed. There was nothing in the chin, but this generation installed the host there and used it.

Poster Jul 29, 2021@ Anonymous3904 # 5 haha I also think there must be a better solution, but maybe they just think it looks good like this? Or, as other buildings say, is it a "family design language"? Just like that ugly "air intake grille" is put on bmw trams.

Poster Jul 29, 2021@ Anonymous2884 # 6 Haha, I'm actually semi-sarcastic about the design of this generation. It can be made very narrow, but it has to be such a wide runway
-
Anonymous3909 Jul 29, 2021Don't you just choose thin between thin and chin
-
Anonymous559 Jul 29, 2021It can be said before that this generation just happened to be used. Compared with the original design, it is more realistic not to keep the chin. You can expect the next generation XDR equipped with the A13 chip, which may become thinner (in fact, XDR becomes thinner, but it doesn't have that texture)
-
Anonymous3910 Jul 29, 2021Just to be thin. Otherwise, there is no place for the motherboard. @ Anonymous559 Pro Display XDR is just a simple monitor, what do you want with A13?
-
Anonymous3911 Jul 29, 2021The reason behind it is heart-warming
-
Anonymous3912 Jul 29, 2021After the screen is placed, the thickness is increased out of thin air, and the heat dissipation design is not good. Now the air outlet is just at the lower edge. By the way, it's convenient to put up notes... On the whole, the current scheme is better. There is a disassembly report online to look at.

Anonymous2059 Jul 29, 2021Novielli explained that this is what allows the color to shine. Furthermore, Apple was able to pack all of the iMac's components in the chin and reduce the thickness of the iMac to just 11.5 mm. In total, the new iMac features a 30% smaller footprint and 50% less volume than the previous 21.5-inch iMac. Apple's official explanation is very simple, just to be thinner.
