The iMac Pro in hand is the first beggar-in-beggar version I bought, with 8 cores and 32G memory. I have been using it very happily, and in the first year, I went to a direct store to change the screen because of gray spots on the screen. This year, due to the development requirements, it is necessary to run a complete K8S on this machine, and the memory begins to be insufficient. Thinking about disassembling the machine and replacing the memory by myself, after some search, I found that this product can already support 256G memory. However, the articles of Chinese Science and Technology Channel all say that 256G memory can only be optioned at the first purchase, and it is impossible to modify it later.
But I still didn't give up. After some searching (there are very few articles and materials related to iMac Pro), I found on a foreign website that iMac Pro can actually support up to 512G memory (128G x 4). It couldn't support that high before mainly because the iMac Pro was locked on the software and didn't allow upgrades.
So I went to JS on Taobao and bought 4 64G disassembly strips, and bought a foreign garbage W-2191B (good boy, don't learn from me). After some effort, plug it in, turn it on, and the screen goes black. Wait, easy instant kill.
Modification thoughts, iMac Pro is too troublesome to disassemble and assemble, and it needs to be very careful. If you are not careful, you may get into a trap. Therefore, it is not recommended for novices to disassemble and upgrade memory and CPU. The removed CPU and memory are not going to be used for second-hand use. Take time to assemble a 24-disk NAS.
