iMac Replacement SSD Issues

The 2017 27-inch imac, because I bought a hybrid disk, only has a 32g nvme and a 1T HDD. Now that the system is updated, it is estimated that it is not enough to install a system with a capacity of 32g. So the boot speed is very slow. I took advantage of this Double Eleven to buy a Western Digital SN570 nvme disk. I plan to disassemble the machine and replace the original 32g.
I would like to ask if the original 1T capacity HDD disk still needs to be left in the computer after the replacement? Or just remove it and buy a hard disk shell to make a mobile hard disk?
If you stay on the computer and don't do fusion, do you just need to divide it into two disks?

Anonymous3737 Nov 3, 2022If there are more ports that can install nvme m2, the original hard disk does not need to be removed. Make a boot disk with a USB flash drive in advance. Just install the system directly in the new disk. Back up the old disk data and directly format it with disk management If there are not many ports to plug in m2, it can only be removed and used as a mobile hard disk

Anonymous8221 Nov 4, 2022Mine has the same configuration as yours, iMac 2017 27, 2 days ago, I just replaced the mechanical hard drive with ssd, and the speed commission is obvious (SATA interface, the read speed is limited to less than 550, the M.2 you replaced, the speed is about 2000 or above) The original 1t is ready to become a time machine

Poster Nov 7, 2022@ Anonymous8221 Has the original 1T mechanical disk been removed?
-
Poster Nov 7, 2022@ Anonymous9583 The system is installed on an external SSD disk?
-
Poster Nov 7, 2022@ Anonymous3737 originally has two disks, one 32g m2 and one 1t machine.

Anonymous8221 Nov 7, 2022@ Poster It turns out that the mechanical disk was uninstalled and turned into an external ssd (but it is still recognized as an internal hard disk, the data is erased, and it is still fused with 30gssd. I don't know what happened) It is currently used as a file backup disk, using 250g ssd as a time machine The system is installed in the ssd added later (that is, the original mechanical disk location) ---------------------------- According to your thinking, you are going to remove the stereo and replace the 30g ssd from the inside. Then just keep the original solid-state drive, the capacity is quite large, and you can back up files

Anonymous9583 Nov 8, 2022@ Poster Yes. 17 models should support typec, and the external system is logically faster than 15 models.

Poster Nov 10, 2022@ Anonymous8221 Yes, I replaced the nvme with a western digital sn570 1t and stuffed the mechanical hard drive back as well. All format and reinstall the system so that the computer will be 2T.

Anonymous8221 Nov 14, 2022@ Anonymous9583 Thunderbolt 3 (I'm using the type c interface now, but the protocol is usb 3.0, right?, external ssd M.2, the speed is okay, satisfies daily use, Nvidia ssd, the speed reads and writes 1000M/s)

Anonymous8221 Nov 14, 2022@ Anonymous8221 Typo wrong, Yingruida M.2 ssd 1Tb

Anonymous9583 Nov 14, 2022@ Anonymous8221 I use sata ssd, usb3.0 read and write 500M/s, and the boot is a little slow.

Anonymous3739 May 26, 2023May I ask if there is any problem with iMac sleeping after using WD570? Which company does the adapter card come from?
-
Poster May 29, 2023@ Anonymous3739 No problem, the adapter card was bought casually by Pinduoduo.

Poster May 29, 2023intel chip imac for some ae special effects production is already a bit inadequate, and the cpu part is also very tight... The fan was spinning wildly.
