Is there anything to look out for when migrating from Intel MBP to Apple Silicon MBP?

I am recently going to upgrade my old Intel MacBook Pro to a new Apple Silicon MacBook Pro. I would like to ask what I need to pay attention to during the migration process? Can it be done silky smoothly with migration assistant?
I asked about the migration of bootcamp earlier (https://www.v2ex.com/t/1122758). Currently it looks like Apple Silicon doesn't support bootcamp anymore. The solution found so far is to use Parallels Desktop.

Anonymous11001 Apr 14, 2025I only moved after the New Year, so there is nothing to pay attention to. Now the arm version of macOS is very stable

Anonymous769 Apr 14, 2025Be careful not to upgrade the system to the latest version /t/1123350

Anonymous10417 Apr 14, 2025PD can only virtual arm windows, x86 needs to use another virtual machine

Anonymous42 Apr 14, 2025Be careful, first of all, put the computer on a flat table; Then be careful, power on Then you need to turn on the computer. If you don't turn on the computer, the computer won't work.

Anonymous702 Apr 15, 2025I am choosing to configure manually Don't want to have rosetta in my computer

Anonymous11984 Apr 15, 2025I migrated the m1 as soon as it was released. Although it was usable, I still encountered many minor problems in the future, so I had no choice but to reinstall the computer. I suggest you don't migrate.

Anonymous4334 Apr 15, 2025I migrated directly, and there are no major problems, except that a lot of software may need to reinstall the installation version, and the old x86 version is not very good running experience through Rosetta 2 simulation.

Anonymous7873 Apr 15, 2025@ Anonymous769 15.4 is the worst system in my twelve years of using mac. It wastes my day to reinstall the system on two Macs

Anonymous2380 Apr 15, 2025Personal advice! Important files are backed up with USB flash drive or iCloud first. Because after I used the Migration Assistant (which comes with MacOS) to migrate, I found that both computers lost a small number of files. That's right! The files from the old computer are also missing. I'm migrating from M1 Pro to M1 Max

Anonymous11050 Apr 15, 2025It is recommended not to migrate, or only to copy data and documents
-
Anonymous2321 Apr 15, 2025Do not use migration

Anonymous11718 Apr 15, 2025@ Anonymous2380 Can you tell me specifically what files are missing

Anonymous2977 Apr 15, 2025Used mac for more than 10 years and never used migration and time backup restore. Reinstalling the software and configuring the environment itself is an interesting and decompressing thing, and it only takes half a day. Let's do it manually.

Anonymous4222 Apr 15, 2025If you are a programmer, it is best to re-install many software and commands you installed through the command line according to the new architecture.

Anonymous9561 Apr 15, 2025I just moved Intel MBP to M4 last week, and used a stupid method to manually copy the data to install the environment
-
Poster Apr 15, 2025@ Anonymous11984 You mean, manual copy?

Anonymous2380 Apr 15, 2025@ Anonymous11718 # 14 The old computer has about 600G of disk, and the lost data is mainly concentrated in one folder. Some folders and word files, such as xlsx, word, pdf, etc., are randomly missing under this folder. As for the code of other folder directories, dependencies, MacOS configuration, omyzsh configuration.... etc. migrate normally. It took about 3 to 4 hours to migrate. It was migrated before going to bed, and it was OK when I woke up in the morning.

Anonymous2380 Apr 15, 2025@ Poster OP, I don't know if your old computer has a Thunderbolt 3 interface. If so, it is recommended to use Thunderbolt 3 interface migration. It requires a Thunderbolt 3 cable, and the speed is about 40Gb/s, but the relevant configuration needs to be set manually.
