Is there a complete scheme for mac mini to change to NAS (black group)?

It has been five years since the release of M1, and the second-hand price has almost fallen below the thousand yuan mark.
Moreover, factors such as strong performance, extremely low power consumption, super streaming media decoding...
I think it's best suited as a NAS
So, is there any good software and hardware solution at present that can make it run systems such as black groups stably?
1. How to stabilize the plug-in of the urine bag? (Hard disk array)
2. Coexistence of macos and mainstream NAS systems, driver installation, etc...

Anonymous6948 May 21, 2025It depends on what function you use Synology and what function you use. Most functions can be solved with docker, so there is no need to change it to "NAS"

Anonymous691 May 21, 2025Why not sell the Mac mini, buy an N100 NAS host (with a 2.5 G network port, a hard disk rack, and expandable memory...), install a black dress or Feiniu OS, and really understand the NAS instead of letting NAS play with you

Anonymous46 May 21, 2025"I think it is the most suitable for being a NAS". Why do you think it is the "most suitable" for being a NAS without any software? 1. Strong performance: NAS does not need this thing. If it is used as a computing node M1, it is obviously not strong enough 2. Extremely low power consumption: This is true, but the U standby power consumption of N100 or 1235 is only a few watts. Are you short of ten yuan per year in electricity bill? Then do you still connect the mechanical hard drive and UPS? If you connect it, what's the point of saving the few W on CPU? 3. Streaming media decoding is super powerful: is there any? M1 doesn't even support AV1. How can you tell that it is super powerful? It can't be compared with AMD without nuclear display or the ancient E5 religion?

Anonymous46 May 21, 2025Oh, by the way, for most NAS applications, the negative impact of M1's 8G memory far exceeds the benefits brought by CPU performance. The N100 can be equipped with 32G memory casually, and the service it can run can be said to be inferior to the 8GB M1

Anonymous2063 May 21, 2025Let's play mainstream platforms. If you are a developer, you can toss it. It is not recommended for ordinary players

Anonymous330 May 21, 2025Install brew, docker, colima (instead of Docker Desktop), docker-compose successively Run Synology: https://hub.docker.com/r/vdsm/virtual-dsm Run seafile: https://www.seafile.com I think it works best when: Soft Routing Advantages are: silent, no heat, low power consumption Disadvantages: expensive price, low configuration

Anonymous1732 May 21, 2025Does Synology's system support arm architecture?
-
Anonymous559 May 21, 2025Then why not just buy Synology? If macOS is a perfect substitute for Synology, what information does Synology sell?
-
Anonymous1771 May 21, 2025@ Anonymous1732 There should be. Synology has a model with ARM weak chicken processor in its own home. For example: DS220J
