All the photos that have been saved in icloud for ten years are gone

My cousin used my MacBook pro, logged in to icloud, and then turned off the synchronization when he saw that the photos were synchronizing, and then logged out of the icloud account.
He has photos on icloud for almost 10 years. It was paid before, but then it didn't renew it. After using my MacBook pro to quit icloud, the photos were all gone. All the photos that have been saved in icloud for ten years are gone
Let him contact apple for support
What could this be? What operations do normally on the computer, it should not delete the data in the cloud, right?

Anonymous11692 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous779 # 38 Let's change it. I have opened many network disk members. iCloud is entirely because it is highly bound to Apple. If I can choose my own cloud disk for photo file mobile phone backup, I won't open iCloud. Anti-bar instructions, I turned on Google one, OneDrive, dropbox, iCloud + 2t.

Anonymous560 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous779 What do you mean by native support here, the phone comes with software?
-
Anonymous899 May 24, 2025Why not use NAS, privatization + multi-terminal support
-
Anonymous779 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous560 Yes, native means that the system comes with it, and the system supports this natively. Since it is supported natively, theoretically speaking, the functions are the most complete, and the self-owned app and third-party app are naturally adapted the most (native app comes with it, and the third-party app can be directly tested and verified when it is developed. Naturally, the support is the easiest and the functions are the least prone to bugs), and theoretically there are fewer bugs encountered in daily use. It is not realistic to ask a third-party app to fully test and verify onedrive, google dirve, and dropbox during development.

Anonymous779 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous11692 # 39. There is no way to change it. You said yourself that you cannot choose other cloud disks when backing up photos and files on your mobile phone. You can't even change it successfully. How do you want me to change it?

Anonymous11692 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous779 # 45 You mentioned above that the function of cloud files being emptied and retrieved is supported by dropbox. dropbox supports the historical version of the file, even if you want to retrieve the version that was modified an hour ago, and the subscription in the dirt area is really cheaper than iCloud. Based on this point, the problems of multi-terminal synchronization and file loss you mentioned can also be solved. After all, there is a historical version, which is equivalent to a git. I highly recommend you to try it.

Anonymous3871 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous779 Please tell me what is your icloud photo synchronization solution? Is it convenient to share it? My icloud is mainly photos and videos, and there is really no good way to back up it at present. For iCloud, I took advantage of the big promotion to buy a mac mini and put it at home. I turned it on regularly and synchronized the backup. I want to back up Synology, but I feel a lot of inconvenience.

Anonymous10073 May 24, 2025Just buy a Ji Space or lazy cat incognito, and you can handle the photo backup, or you can pretend to be a flying cow yourself It's 2025, what Synology Black Synology, QNAP, you can really see the hell
-
Anonymous10073 May 24, 2025Of course, as an Apple family bucket, I definitely turn on iCloud to facilitate sharing with my family. My plan is to use the mini as a server, synchronize to the local, and regularly back up to the external hard drive

Anonymous11835 May 24, 2025It was due for 2 months and didn't renew it, so scared me to renew it quickly...

Anonymous1828 May 24, 2025Important photos are one on the hard disk and one on the cloud disk.

Anonymous10786 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous779 I originally wanted to reply to him, but after clicking on it, I thought about it. I looked at the domestic system's built-in cloud service, which is also more than 60 yuan/2T/month. There is nothing to say

Anonymous779 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous3871, like you, is also a mac mini. I have 2 units, one 2018 intel version and one M1 version. Photos, files, etc. on iPhone will automatically sync to mac mini via iCloud. Synchronizing to mac mini is very simple, just an ordinary computer, and it is easy to do whatever you want. I have my own tool that will synchronize it on other local disks of the mac mini, and perform a full backup based on CopyOnWrite, which is natively supported by the APFS file system. I also have a Synology and a QNAP. Synology supports WriteOnceReadMany technology, which can ensure that even if hackers come in, my historical backup cannot be deleted, and even formatting the hard drive cannot be done. The only feasible solution is to physically unplug the hard disk and put it on other operating systems for formatting. But that requires hackers to get into my house. Therefore, this kind of physical anti-theft is also done to prevent thieves from entering the door. I have an anti-theft cabinet with screw holes in the back of the cabinet that was meant to be fixed to a concrete wall. I used it for wiring. I hid four 2.5-inch mechanical disks in the anti-theft cabinet, came out through TypeC cables, and connected them to two windows outside. On windows, naturally, I use the same set of code to perform synchronization from mac mini and full backup. It's just that NTFS does not support CopyOnWrite, and the deduplication function of the windows server version also has a big problem, so the traditional full backup solution doesn't work. I use the file snapshot function written by myself, and the principle is similar to git. But this set can't prevent fires and earthquakes. Because it is Telecom Gigabit broadband, Tianyi Cloud gave me 8T space, so I also put a copy in Tianyi Cloud. At the same time, a backup is also placed in the armrest box of the car in the garage. Of course, iCloud itself is already a remote disaster recovery solution. And because Android phones support the installation of termux, termux can run the complete jdk21, so I turned the Android phone into a full-featured NAS with the same set of code. When needed, all my data can be synchronized and backed up to my phone. Unfortunately, I didn't expect this scene when I bought it. The two Android phones were based on my iPhone usage, and they were both 256G. During this time, I was playing simulator games again, and there were more than a dozen gigabytes in a game. As a result, the mobile phone space is simply not enough to make a full data version of NAS.

Anonymous3982 May 24, 2025My Experience... Hard drive blows up.. Shit... I feel like I've lost photos for about a year Fortunately I put the photos in google photo and ondrive at the same time. google photo, you can buy google one pro to get 2TB free, or buy google pixel 1 generation, you can upload unlimited original images onedrive 1TB can be used as a salted fish carpooling home version, which only costs 45 a year

Poster May 24, 2025@ Anonymous73 Thanks, this experience is invaluable. But my cousin's this is over 30 days old.. See if customer service can solve it, thank you

Anonymous9671 May 24, 2025Isn't this your operation problem? How is it Apple's problem?

Anonymous46 May 24, 2025@ Anonymous1824 iCloud is the normal personal network disk price. You said that iCloud is difficult to use. It is true that some parts, such as the Windows part, are bad in synchronizing with bookmarks, but how is it expensive? You won't compare it with network disks such as Baidu and 115, right? The only charity price is OneDrive family carpooling, which is an alternative. Microsoft probably does not intend to make money from it at all
