Friends, can the M4 Macbook Air 13-inch, 32G + 256G configuration fight for five years in back-end development?

-
Poster May 29, 2025@ Anonymous35 pro is a lot of money short
-
Anonymous36 May 29, 2025You can consider expanding the hard disk, the 256 is really a little crowded
-
Poster May 29, 2025@ Anonymous36 Well, consider expansion or plug-in. If it is a virtual machine, it basically runs on the hard disk. I mainly like large memory

Anonymous37 May 29, 2025M4 Macbook Air 13 24 +512 just came out, the mac is not so good, it is very stuck, and it often feels very stuck and slow

Anonymous8495 May 29, 2025On pro, air passive cooling is too hot
-
Anonymous39 May 29, 202532G memory is barely enough, but 256G hard drive is not. Any software or project is hundreds of megabytes
-
Anonymous40 May 29, 2025It is best to choose pro for development.

Anonymous41 May 29, 2025How much money can you win? There are no shortcomings except that the screen is smaller. The pro fan doesn't turn either. https://i.imgur.com/MAyk5GN.png

Anonymous42 May 29, 2025I don't think it can't be used for 10 years.
-
Anonymous43 May 29, 2025That's enough, the first company still equipped 16 +256 m1, which is enough
-
Anonymous44 May 29, 2025air is the same as office and iQiyi. It doesn't work even if the office data comes up.

Poster May 29, 2025@ Anonymous41 I think the national subsidy + education discount can achieve 8k

Poster May 29, 2025@ Anonymous39 Pure code and IDE are not a big problem. I used a 256 m1 mac mini before, which used less than 200G

Anonymous45 May 29, 2025Doesn't fit. Air is suitable for the role of product manager. The work is mainly document-based and very lightweight. Back-end programmers, if they open a bunch of IDEs, the load will be heavy. Air doesn't have a fan. Once it overheats (because of heavy load), the CPU will reduce its frequency to cool down. This is a fatal flaw: when you need the CPU to work at full capacity, the CPU will reduce its frequency instead. As for the cost, Air is cheap, but if it is not suitable, then this investment is a sunk cost, and then you will definitely be reluctant to use it second-hand, so you can only make do with it. Why bother. After all, Apple has two product lines, one is cheap and the other is expensive. There must be a reason why you don't worry about everyone rushing for the cheap ones.
-
Anonymous46 May 29, 2025Suggest the old Pro, 32G is also cheap... The battery life is a bit worse, but if you develop it, you shouldn't be unplugged all day, right?

Poster May 29, 2025Everyone chooses M4, which is full of national subsidies + education discounts 13 inch air 32G + 256G 8000 13 inch air 32G + 512G 9599 14 inch pro 32G + 512G 13099
-
Anonymous47 May 29, 2025The number of years of use depends on the configuration. It is recommended to use pro, 32G and 512 to ensure that you can use it for more than 5 years. Otherwise, if you feel that the card is stuck in the future, the loss of replacing it will also need to be taken into account.

Anonymous48 May 29, 2025Buy an m4 mini and go to an m9 five years later
-
Anonymous49 May 29, 2025The 256 is too small
