The experience of multiple Studio Displays is not good

by Poster Jun 4, 2025 34
On a whim, I built several Studio Displays to enhance the experience of desktop monitors. I found that although Apple has repeatedly shown multiple usage scenarios in official promotional videos and photos, the system support does not seem to have optimized multiple scenarios. The monitors are completely used for their own purposes and do not reflect their ecological advantages. The problems found so far are as follows: 1. Daisy chain is not supported. The monitor has only one lightning port, and multiple connections are either plugged into the host computer or require a lightning docking station 2. Brightness adjustments are independent of each other, and the system does not support multiple monitor configuration linkage 3. For audio output, only one of the monitors can be selected to produce sound, and it does not support the stereo combination of HomePod that calculates audio 4. The system natively does not support multi-track recording acquisition of multiple microphones …… Is there a better solution that can make multiple usage more elegant?

Point 3: There is only one sound unit by default. You can edit it with the audio MIDI settings that come with your Mac (in the utility tool) and try to string it together

Has Apple ever had this precedent of using all hardware resources to create user experience?

Let's put the physical limitations on it. Studio Displays only supports Thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt 3 currently can only drive two 4k 60fps or one 5k 60fps.

For the second point, you can look at the lunar app On other points, I guess apple thinks that users will mainly focus on the front monitor, which is indeed a bit sb.

The 27-inch is too big. I think the 24-inch is the most suitable for dual screens. Unfortunately, the same 4.5 k24-inch iMac is not sold as a separate monitor. I don't know what Apple thinks. I'm waiting after changing the mold from the iMac. 1. No way, the bandwidth is not enough. Daisy chain still has usage scenarios, and it's really not good to unplug two wires each time. 2. This has third-party software, which is not enough. I like to adjust it by myself. 3. The quality of the speakers of the monitor is so poor that I bought external speakers separately. The Mac can push the amplifier, so the experience is quite good. 4. There is no such usage scenario, but it should be the same as 3. Find an external microphone.

@ Anonymous559 # 2 Using an iPad as a display for a Mac, does this count

@ Anonymous559 Multiple HomePods + an Apple TV should count

@ Anonymous8684 But two HomePods can be used as a sound device @ Anonymous559 count it, Handoff, Universal Control, Airdrop, Airtag, HomePod stereo @ Anonymous1771 I don't know why I haven't been on Thunderbolt 4 in 22 years @ Anonymous3717 Thanks, but the mouse and sound window are put on the front monitor and the sound can't follow... @ Anonymous780 @ Anonymous5129 Wish I could

@ Anonymous8184 buy early... @ Anonymous5126 It's really quite big, and the black border is very wide. I got 3 screens, and now it feels a bit redundant,,,

@ Anonymous5126 1. It's really inconvenient, and you have to get an additional docking station; 2. I really don't want to install additional software for such a small function. It's quite long-winded. It would be great if the adaptive brightness adjustment can be automatically synchronized through the system settings. 3. At least it's better than the homepod mini. Supporting spatial audio can also improve the performance of the sound field. Watch videos. Not bad either; 4. After all, it comes with a so-called "studio-grade microphone", which can obviously produce better recording effects and achieve multi-microphone noise reduction

If only it supported 3. Other 1, there is really no way. But if you buy a studio this year, you really haven't done a good job in advance. Lots of good monitors this year.

Is there a Thunderbolt 4 to two Thunderbolt 3 docking station? M1Max supports Thunderbolt 4, and then drives two Thunderbolt 3 studio dispaly

There is also the system dock that will run around several screens irregularly and cannot be fixed on a certain screen, which is disgusting to death

Is there a possibility that the bandwidth of two 5K 60Hz already exceeds the combined bandwidth of Thunderbolt by 3/4? Thunderbolt 5 was mass-produced only last year. How could SD have such a thing when it came out?

    2. When swinging it sideways, the light may be different from that on the front. If the automatic brightness is easy to use, you should use automatic. There is a light on my right, so the monitor on the left will be lightened manually. It is indeed appropriate to separate it. I didn't buy lunar for daily stationary brightness either. The 3 and 4 systems really come with them, and CoreAudio is still very strong. Open "Audio MIDI Settings", Menu-Window-Show Audio Devices (Cmd+1), plus sign in the lower left corner, Create Aggregate Devices and Create Multiple Output Devices. By creating an aggregation device, you can tie multiple devices with sound cards together. You can choose multiple inputs, but if your application supports multi-track recording, it is useless for you to hold multiple non-standard mono channels in daily life. You can also configure multiple outputs here, but only one speaker and one track, and it comes with real surround sound. If your application is possible, you can make the left monitor have all left channels, the right monitor have all right channels, and one left and one right in the middle, so that the sound is perfect. Creating multi-device output means that all devices play the same sound, so that all three devices can play the same stereo sound, but the one on your left will play a right channel and the same way on the right. There is no solution for it, but you can adjust the balance of the one on the left to the left. Adjust the balance to the left and adjust the right to the right to relieve it.
