In terms of VM running speed, is it faster to run a VM on a NAS or to run a PD on an iMac by putting files on a NAS?

The SSD of imac is only 512. I feel that putting a 50G win10 virtual machine has a low usage rate and is too uneconomical. I thought of two solutions. One is to buy a NAS with virtual machine function and run win10 on the NAS. However, the more popular NAS configurations are not high, and those that can run virtual machines are ugly. Another solution is to put PD's. pvm file is placed on the NAS and run on the computer. Which of these two schemes will be faster? In addition, imac and routing use 5G without network cable, and the display speed is about 500m.

Anonymous3233 Mar 5, 2019It is the fastest to connect a Thunderbolt 3ssd and play it on windows, and the answer is finished.

Anonymous345 Mar 5, 2019Buy a usb3.1 mobile hard drive, such as Samsung'S t5, which is very small and has a speed of 500M/S, which is enough

Anonymous9895 Mar 5, 2019I've tried, the latency is very high. However, I put it in the mobile hard drive, because the MacBook Air 128G doesn't have enough space at all. So I tried putting it in a mobile hard disk, but it turned out to be useless. The latency was very high + the reading was too slow. I was in 5G, and maybe the speed of the mobile hard disk was not fast enough. —————————————— It is recommended to buy more than 300 supported Windows To Go to install Windows and then plug in the iMac, which does not affect the speed and does not take up the space of the iMac. You can also use PD to mount virtual machines.

Anonymous2062 Mar 5, 2019It is better to buy a server and run NAS and virtual desktop separately after bare metal virtualization.

Anonymous3044 Mar 5, 2019"One is to buy a NAS with virtual machine function and run win10 on the NAS, but the more popular NAS configurations are not high, and those that can run virtual machines are ugly." NAS is mainly used for storage, not for running virtual machines, not recommended "Another solution is to put PD's. pvm file on the NAS and run it on the computer." Disk IO becomes network IO, if it is stuck, it is not necessary Personally, I feel that there is no problem in putting a 50G virtual machine on a 512 disk. If there is not enough space, you can put some data on the NAS. This is the correct usage If you have to put it on external storage, then at least start with a USB3.0 mobile hard disk, preferably an SSD, so that the virtual machine can be used normally without problems

Anonymous3235 Mar 5, 2019You can consider buying a server and connecting it remotely. Or, wtg

Anonymous3237 Mar 5, 2019This is how I build an ncu to install win10, then connect win10 to the wired network and use the wireless network card to share the wireless hotspot. Connect the Mac to this hotspot and then remote desktop The effect is very good, and it does not take up the bandwidth of the router, which is very stable

-
Anonymous3238 Mar 5, 2019The virtual machine mounts two disks, one system disk, about 15G, and then the other disk is connected to the NAS storage disk with iscsi Of course, there is no NAS, no other idle machines, and there is no need for simultaneous operation. WTG is the best solution Now SSD can achieve 1G 1 ¥

Anonymous3239 Mar 5, 2019Replace it with a 1T ssd. The original 512 ssd installed a tb3 hard drive box to run win to go.

Poster Mar 6, 2019@ Anonymous345 @ Anonymous3233 @ Anonymous3236 @ Anonymous3240 Thank you, thank you, I thought the external SSD was very expensive, but I checked that the 1T one was only over 1,000. I regret just buying an 8T seagate backup plus + 4T red disk and external hard disk box.... Hey... I have always had the impression that external SSDs are very expensive and I haven't checked the price

Poster Mar 6, 2019@ Anonymous2062 Do you have any better recommendations for home use that are good-looking and small? Is HP's Gen8 a bit outdated?

Poster Mar 6, 2019@ Anonymous9895 @ Anonymous3044 @ Anonymous3235 Thank you. Is the main problem that the delay of network reading is relatively large, but the speed is second? In addition, I checked WTG. Is this a faster USB flash drive? Just put the. pvm file in it just like a USB flash drive? Or can it be directly installed on this USB flash drive to boot?

Poster Mar 6, 2019@ Anonymous3237 Thank you. I think this method is very good. May I ask if NCU refers to industrial computer? I checked that they are all cabinet-style. Are there any better-looking ones suitable for home use?

Poster Mar 6, 2019@ Anonymous3073 @Anonymous3238 @ Anonymous3239 Thank you for your reply. The main reason is that some audio sources used by logic pro. The apple loop is very large, and it is not supported to be placed in other places. It is all in application support. After installing some, it will be full. Is iscisi supported by both mainstream qnap and synology? Does mac support it? In addition, is the SSD used by imac relatively expensive and I can't replace it myself? I bought an official customized machine at that time. At that time, I saw that if I replaced 512G with 1T, it would cost 3,000 oceans, so I didn't add it.......
