Is it a good choice to get an iMac 2017 at the end of 2018?

Now I have the idea of eliminating the previously assembled desktop computers and monitors and going back to my hometown, and upgrading them to iMac with writing code. However, the cook didn't upgrade the iMac series before. I don't know if the iMac series will be updated next year. Now I'm more entangled about whether I will join the national army in 49 years. There is also an alternative, Mac mini high-end + Dell U2718Q, the price is not beautiful and there are too many wires (otherwise I wouldn't think about eliminating desktop computers).
Now the general plan is:
-iMac 27 5K (Medium)
-Mac mini premium + Dell U2718Q
ps: Desktop + MBP13 + Dell U2515 on hand now
Please give me some suggestions (better wake me up >. <

Anonymous157 Dec 16, 2018If you care about performance, you must go directly to the mac mini. The high-end configuration basically explodes in performance.

Anonymous9384 Dec 16, 2018No, you have a desktop. Try tossing the black apple

Poster Dec 16, 2018@ Anonymous9384 I don't want to mess with black apples, my hometown needs a landlord machine (*/ω\ *)

Anonymous159 Dec 16, 2018The 8th or 9th generation U version should be available in June at the latest, with daily connectivity upgrades (BT 4.2-> 5.0, more Thunderbolt interfaces replacing USB-A, etc., and the next generation Wi-Fi standard may be available), new technologies (Face ID) may be added. Only a personal prediction, and I will look at it in half a year.

Anonymous160 Dec 16, 2018The 27-inch 5K is completely enough. The gap between the 7th generation and 8th generation CPUs of desktop computers cannot be understood when writing code. As for buying a mac mini, no matter how much money you have, you will still buy an HD530 graphics card https://ws3.sinaimg.cn/bmiddle/62e721e4gw1et02ek7u61j200k00k3y9. jpg

Anonymous157 Dec 16, 2018The top version of the mac mini has 32G of memory. The memory can often be eaten up because chrome opens too many windows. But no jams have been found. Flash kill any macbook before

Anonymous157 Dec 16, 2018The current nuclear display performance is not bad. It's definitely not possible to play games, but writing code is completely enough. It can drive 3 4k monitors at the same time, what else?

Anonymous160 Dec 16, 2018@ Anonymous157 # 11 You can adjust the zoom to More Space, and then click the Launchpad icon to know if it is stuck... https://i.imgur.com/Cj2pRFm.png MBP external monitor will be forced to display independently. Guess why?

Anonymous160 Dec 16, 2018In addition, this site discussed the lag problem when the mac mini first came out: https://www.v2ex.com/t/506598? p = 1 The conclusion is simple: nuclear display garbage.

Poster Dec 16, 2018@ Anonymous160 Is this mini graphics card so weak, and I'm a little worried that the I7 won't be able to suppress it, so it's a proper I5

Anonymous165 Dec 16, 2018The Mac mini can't get 5k resolution, it's basically upscale. The machine in the Apple Store is connected to UltraFine 5k, and the fonts are blurred. When Mission Control and Launchpad are turned on, the animation is also very stuck. If you add an eGPU and an external display, the price-performance ratio of this Mac mini can be said to be beaten by the 2017 5k iMac
-
Anonymous163 Dec 16, 2018What @ Anonymous160 said is basically correct. Whether it is stuck or not, you will know after cutting the Launchpad a few times. The model performance of this junk graphics card is there. It's hard to think about it. I went to the store very early to check it out, and it's really It's direct detoxification

Anonymous166 Dec 16, 2018It's not a good idea to recommend the mac mini if you haven't used it or known it. When the mac mini first came out, I was tempted to replace the black apple. After touching it, I was scared by the lag, and there was also the problem of frequency reduction. I don't recommend buying it.
